To whom may be reading this Post / Blog:

After several years of hard work and dreams we have hit a roadblock in this project and it maybe irreversible.  I think we could probably say COVID19 has killed this project but it has actually been a combination of events. The new owner of the property where I have the boat stored has decided not to allow us to work on the boat anymore. We live in Metro Atlanta and I can’t find any other nearby place where I can put the boat on. We also have a new personal / family / financial situation that makes this project almost impossible. So it is with my heart in my hand that I say this project is probably ready to be picked up by a new dreamer/sailor. I wanted to teach my kids a lesson on how to never give up and here I am, giving up. I guess I will have to tell them that sometimes you will lose battles but you will have get up, dust off and go out on the attach to win the war. We will sail, some day.

Back to the project / boat. This is a Bluewater ocean crossing sailboat. It is very solid and seaworthy. This is a great project for someone with the time and space for finishing up the boat. The worst part of the restoration is already done. Hours and hours of demolition, sanding and cleaning. What is left is the fun part where you actually get to build something instead of destroying. We have most if not all the parts. The new owner will just have to put all the pieces back together and go sailing.

If anyone out there is interested or have questions please reach out: Carlos (404-514-9124) ctriasblanco@gmail.com.

You will find a description of the current status of the boat HERE

Most of the works we have done on the boat are documented HERE.

Fair winds and following seas.

Carlos.

  1. Hello
I am interested in your boat and would like to receive more information on safety and wing equipment and various maintenance.
On electronic equipment. and the final rate.
    I thank you in advance.
    Olivier MARCHIER

  2. Hello,
I also would like the information you sent Oliver. If the boat is still for sale.

  3. Sad to see your dream didn’t make it. I too had the dream, and bought hull 142 from a guy in NJ. It was basically a big bathtub, and I had an enjoyable 5 years putting it together, before finally saying time to sail, and launched around 1989. Never finished all the trim work, but have had over 30 years of fun sailing Long Island Sound to Nantucket, Provincetown, and beyond. Upgrades over the years.

Hope you can get something to get out on the water. My first boat for 12 years was a Colombia 24′. Cruised for up to 2 weeks with 2 kids, and had great experiences, with only a depth sounder and compass.

Half the fun is working on the boat, and the other half is using it.

  4. Hi Nick, Thanks for the comment and its always encouraging to hear from other owners that have been on a similar journey. Our hull would be an excellent project for somebody to take over since we now know about every inch of the vessel and it was coming back to life before Covid got in the way. That and the unexpected; the storage yard changing hands then Carlos having triplets! You get the idea. Anyway, we’ll keep hoping that something will come along. Perhaps one of us should buy a place in countryside with a few spare acres…
    Best regards,
    David
